The following Renown Health locations reopened on Tuesday,  Aug. 25 after being closed on Monday, Aug. 24 due to the Hawk Fire:

• Renown Pediatrics – Mae Anne
• University Health – Sports Medicine
• University Health – Occupational Health

The North Hills Urgent Care, Renown Medical Group and Renown Lab remain closed today. Patients with scheduled appointments have been notified and either rescheduled or moved to a different location. Patients are asked not to come to the facility while it is closed.

Reminder: Safeguard your health

It’s important to take precautions to stay healthy if you or your family are in an area that is impacted by the fire, including by smoky air. This is especially important for people with respiratory conditions such as asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

• Stay indoors and keep your windows closed (unless instructed otherwise).
• Check your local air quality index (AQI) before venturing outside.
• Use your long-term control medications (like Alvesco or Advair) as prescribed.
• Use “quick relief” inhalers to help with shortness of breath.
• If you have oxygen, use it if you have difficulty breathing.
• Run an air conditioner but keep the fresh air intake closed and the filter clean to prevent outdoor smoke from getting inside.
• Use fans in each room to help move the air in your house.
• You think you have a medical emergency, call 911 for assistance.

About masks

• Not all masks that prevent the spread of COVID-19 will protect you from the particles produced from fires.
• Adults may benefit from using an N95 mask if they have one and must be outdoors. This helps protect you from unhealthy air. Masks must be fitted properly. Masks and cloth face coverings that help slow the spread of COVID-19 aren’t effective for smoke.
• We don’t recommend children wear N95 masks. They aren’t made for children and may not fit properly. N95s won’t protect them from smoke. Masks and cloth face coverings also can obstruct breathing in babies and young children. It’s best to keep children indoors to reduce smoke exposure.

Evacuation Information

If you need to evacuate, the Reno-Sparks Convention Center’s Hall 4 is open for evacuees. The address for this location is 4590 S. Virginia St., Reno. Enter door 20F on the Kietzke side. 

For animals, Washoe County Regional Animal Services, 2825 Longley Lane, Suite A, Reno, is accepting small animals. 

For RTC, the general RTC RIDE/Public Transportation line is  775-348-RIDE (775-348-7433). RTC ACCESS reservations for eligible paratransit riders are  775-348-5438, option 1.  I wasn’t able to verify a separate fire-specific RTC evacuation dispatch number, so I would not label either number “RTC evacuation dispatch” unless your team has been given a separate number directly by the EOC.
